SmarterSelect saves us time and money.

Our experience with SmarterSelect has been terrific from day 1, back in 2011. The customer service is above average, the FAQs are spot on, and the weekly calls are an added bonus. Our evaluators find it easy to use and our applicants have grown significantly.

Pros

The ease of use and the continual upgrades to improve it on a regular basis.

Cons

I'd love to see improvements in the user interface to keep scrolling to a minimum - for example the ability to use tables. Also, the ability for evaluators to download data would be helpful.

This program was designed to work with scholarships, and it does very well for that purpose. We also use it with our grant process and with a teacher recognition program where the nominator is not the person eligible for the award. There are definitely limitations and drawbacks for these processes.

Pros

The scholarship program is relatively easy to use, and the support staff is usually quite responsive and helpful.

Cons

For grant applications, there are limitations because the grants show up under the name of the person who completed the application rather than by the name of the organization. Smarter Select has developed a couple of work arounds to help ease this problem, but it does present quite a bit more work on the backside. Also, for our teacher recognition program, the nominator is the one who shows up, rather than the nominee. This is an ongoing problem that we haven't really been able to solve. Our program is pretty unique, so a solution is probably not on the horizon and may not be worth Smarter Select's efforts to fix it.

Pros

I like that our recipients can submit all of their information on-line

Cons

There are some features that are less intuitive, written explanations or support features for evaluators would be useful.

Smarter Select has been invaluable for collecting applications and making student selections. It is compatible with other software programs we use, saving a tremendous amount of time.

Pros

How easy it is to collect information and use it as needed - whether it's students submitting an application, school advisors making student selections, creating master lists, or communicating with students.

Cons

Probably the lack of printing options.

We purchased this under the direction of our Business Office Manager. I had not done my research, however that doesn't mean that this isn't a good product. I believe it is a great product, but there should be some type training, tutorials that comes along with it. I was flying by the seat of my pants, knowing I can figure out most things, this really pushed the limits. I used this to gather the information needed for the scholarships we were implementing this year. I didn't know how much time it would take to make it happen and to see where changes need to be made. The representative was nice whenever I talked with him, he was quite knowledgeable, that really helped me. The assignments for the reviewers, I never could get that.....I didn't do that part. I hope next year, we will be able to get our money's worth, because we could have put that $1000 into the scholarship and had another student.

Once you get used to the platform it is really quite easy to build stuff. Support has been more than helpful when I have had questions. Made for a quick and easy transition from what we were using.

I've used this for 5 years and the experience has been excellent. Unlike other programs, the price is terrific for the quality of the program and ease of use. They have only expanded their features. While lacking a bit in the matching side, they have so much that can be implemented behind the scenes.

Pros

Easy to Use, Great price to quality for the program. Unlike others, they don't raise prices dramatically every year and have kept the prices down, which is great for smaller budgets. Also While keeping prices down they've added more and more features. All problems I've ever had have been user error and not with their program. With the mid-level package there's SO MUCH you can do behind the scene to evaluate and rank (although matching still remains elusive). Any service to the site they've given plenty of notice so we can let students know the site will be down. Site stability and speed has been great.

Cons

No number to call right when you're having a problem-you have to send an email. To be fair, this is responded to promptly, but still... Once you know how to use the program it's very easy but there's no manual. Videos/support site and the topics are ok and expanding. Webinars help but can sometimes lose focus.
